La Tempestad - Sketch for a (hopefully short term) future 3D illustration

I've picked a frame from an animatic I have for my first shortfilm (I'll keep it secret though) to test the workflow I'll be using. As I've been learning a lot this past months, I decided it was a good idea to start small with all new tools and techniques and make a "fast" try at it.

First I took a snapshot from the 3d camera:


Then, in photoshop, I outlined the most relevant things, like the character, some books, etc. Then I printed the sketch alone and drew over it more details and changed a bit the ratio:

It's a bit rough now, but it's ok at this stage. Now I can start working further on details and test other objects easily. Once I'm happy with this, I can get into modeling everything and adding the detail. I also have some work to do on the character design. Some stylization is needed, since this piece is not intended to be hyper-real.

Hey there, these are some sketches I've done mostly while at work when waiting for some render previews to be done. Some of the I liked and then I spent some more time on them (given I'm pretty slow drawing). I love to draw with a pen, the texture gets very interesting very fast. That's pretty much all for today!

A 3D character (which never saw the light as it is...)

Here's another one that remained in the dark, typical problems when you don't have a clear direction (nor it's gonna be given). Anyway, I was pretty happy with the result regardless, specially being the first time I tried to do some hair.

Aca hay otro personaje que nunca vio la luz, tipico cuando no tenes una direccion clara (ni la va a haber). Igual me gusto como quedo en gral, sobre todo el pelo por ser el primero.

Peacefully, and colorfull hour in the beach (update01)

I started with the detailing now, and made some minor adjustment on the light on her. Details on the cloth are finished for a good while. Below you can click on the images for close ups.

Empece con los detalles, e hice ajustes menores en la luz sobre ella. Los detalles de la ropa estan terminados por un buen rato. Mas abajo pueden clickear en las imagenes para ver unos planos detalle.

Sculpting test - getting started and giving Mudbox a test drive

This is a character I wanted to keep in secret for a while. The final character won't look much like this test, so I decided I could show some of it. I did sculpted something in mudbox before, but just some pants and a bit of clothing. Now this is the real deal, stylized human faces and bodies.

The test was pretty much ok I believe, so next step is getting my backdrops straight and start working on the final one. I won't tell you what this char is for though muehehe.

Este es un personaje que queria mantener en secreto por un tiempo. El personaje final no se va a parece tanto a esta prueba que hice con mudbox, asi que me parecio que lo podia mostrar. Ya esculpí algo en mudbox antes, pero cosas no tan complejas como botas y pantalones. Ahora estoy empezando con cabezas y cuerpos humanos estilizados.

El test fue satisfactorio, asi que ahora resta alinear las imagenes que tengo de frente y perfil, y empezar a construir el personaje final. Lo que no les voy a decir es para que construyo este personaje muejeje.

Lumi

Let me introduce you guys, the first short film I worked in Big Boom. The short film has been making the rounds in some festivals, including BAFICI 2010 among others.

Dejenme presentarles el primer corto en el que trabaje en Big Boom. Este corto ha sido presentado en varios festivales, entre ellos el BAFICI 2010.



Lumi discovers his world for the first time. He looks up the sky and gets touched by the stars. Then, everything goes dark and suddenly appears GriGro, a strange being that grows out of control in the absence of light.


Lumi descubre su mundo por primera vez. Mira al cielo y se conmueve ante las estrellas. En ese instante todo oscurece y aparece repentinamente GriGro, un extraño ser que crece inmensamente con la ausencia de luz.
